The Arizona Chapter American Concrete Institute invites you to Submit your projects for our 2027 Exposing the BEST in Concrete Awards Gala  

Exposing the BEST in Concrete Awards honors exceptional concrete construction from around Arizona. Projects are recognized for the degree of innovation, complexity, achievement, and value that concrete as a material provides.

Recently completed and nominated concrete projects are judged by an independent panel of industry professionals and Honorary Lifetime Members. Only one project will stand out by receiving the overall Excellence Award on Saturday evening September 25th, 2027, at Mountain Shadows Resort in Paradise Valley, AZ

Submission deadline is April 1, 2027

Eligibility

Submit your project by 5:00 p.m. on April 1, 2027.    

The nominated project must consist of new construction that was substantially completed within the 36 months preceding the submission deadline.

Project Categories

Nominations are accepted in the following categories:*

  1. Low-Rise Structures: Buildings up to three stories residential (multi-family and houses), school, commercial, warehouse and industrial, etc.
  2. Mid-Rise Structures: Buildings four to fifteen stories
  3. High-Rise Structures: Buildings more than fifteen stories
  4. Bridges: a structure carrying a road, path, railroad, or canal across a river, ravine, road, railroad, or other obstacle
  5. Decorative: Decorative or architectural feature or element such as exterior or interior finishes, hardscapes, ornamentation, stained, stamped, or polished concrete, art installations, etc.
  6. Flatwork: Pavements, parking lots, runways, commercial/industrial floors, etc.
  7. Infrastructure: Basic facilities or systems serving a region or community, such as recreation, site, water, marine structures, etc.
  8. Repair and Restoration: overlays, rehabilitation, remodel, retrofitting, etc.

*AZ ACI reserves the right to recategorize project nominations.

Rules

  1. Entry must be a new construction substantially completed within the 36 months preceding the submission deadline.
  2. Entry must highlight innovative use of concrete as a main principal construction element.
  3. Entry must demonstrate creativity and innovation in the application of concrete technology.
  4. A minimum of four photos - Vector Files are required per nomination.  Not to exceed 20 photos. Nomination may include up to a 90-second time lapse video. No animations or artificial intelligence will be accepted. Concrete as well as the construction process should be featured in a majority of the photos.

Judging

Judging is conducted by a panel of qualified concrete and construction professionals with technical expertise in each award category, as well as project experience. Nominated projects will be judged on the following:

  1. Architectural merit
  2. Engineering merit
  3. Creativity
  4. Innovative construction techniques or solutions
  5. Innovative use of materials
  6. Ingenuity
  7. Sustainability and resilience
  8. Functionality and end-use suitability

Project Description

Provide a detailed project description in 300 words or fewer. You must include project completion date, project size (dimensions, area, span), concrete quantity (volume area tonnage), and construction work duration. This information will be judged and used in program and communication materials.

IMPORTANT: the information you provide will be published exactly as entered. AZ ACI is not responsible for errors and omissions made by the project’s representative.

Concrete Description

Provide a 500-word (or fewer) description of how concrete was featured in the project. It should also cover the complexity and uniqueness of the project and should include information such as:

  1. Special features
  2. Degree of difficulty
  3. Project challenges
  4. Problem solving
  5. Ecological and environmental factors
