ACI 117.1R-XX (13) Guide
for Tolerance Compatibility
in Concrete Construction

Presented by: Eldon G. Tipping, SSI

Tolerance compatibility issues cost the construction industry millions upon millions of dollars a year.  The ACI 117 tolerance committee has attacked this issue head-on by developing “A Guide for Tolerance Compatibility in Concrete Construction”.  The document, due to be published in August, assists the architect, engineer and contractor by identifying  industry standard tolerances and presenting  recommendations for mitigating tolerance conflicts related to the interface between concrete and the following work: embedded items, elevator cores and hoistways, openings in slabs and walls, manufactured couplers and splicing systems for reinforcing bars, stairs, cladding systems, infill wall systems, surface accessibility components, finish floor coverings, and expansion joints.

Eldon G. Tipping is the President of Structural Services, Inc. (SSI), a privately held company based in Richardson, Texas. His 40 years of experience in the design and construction industry began as a structural designer for commercial and industrial structures; Mr. Tipping later served as Vice President for a commercial materials testing laboratory where he monitored construction projects.

The monthly ACI meetings are very well attended and typically sell out, so please register in advance. These meetings are a great opportunity to network, as well as to brush up on your technical knowledge. Check in begins at 5:00, followed by dinner and the presentation at 5:30 pm. We work to get you back on the road no later than 7:30 pm.

All registrations are done on-line. When you complete your on-line registration you will receive an emailed invoice and are then given the option of paying on-line or using the invoice to pay by check.
