Fiber Reinforced Slabs on Grade

Presented by: Jeffrey Ferris

1.  Update to ACI 360

2.  Alternate to conventional Rebar Reinforcement

3.  Increased Durability

4.  Concrete Mix Considerations

Ferris started his career in fiber reinforced concrete in 1984, which marked the initial introduction of synthetic fibers into the concrete industry.  The goal was to establish fibers as a solution to reduce plastic shrinkage cracking, enhance durability properties and as an alternate to welded wire fabric in slab on grade.  Over the next decade fiber usage increased significantly, and eventually the majority of concrete producers throughout the United States began stocking fibers and using them on a daily basis. In the mid 19990’s, macropolymeric fiber designs were being developed, and some of the reinforcing attributes could actually transcend steel fiber performance.  Over these years, Jeff had the unique opportunity to work with industry pioneers such as Mel Galinat, Pete Tatnall, Pat Harrison, Rick Smith, Joel Burgess, Bob Annett and Dave Bliek.  This background provides him the foundation and working knowledge of applications for fiber reinforced concrete today.  Jeff has a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University, is on the San Diego ACI Board of Directors and is the Education Committee Co-chair for the Southern CA Chapter ACI.

The monthly ACI lunch meetings are very well attended and typically sell out, so please register in advance. These meetings are a great opportunity to network, as well as to brush up on your technical knowledge. Check in begins at 11:30, followed by lunch and the presentation at noon. We work to get you back on the road by 1:00 pm.

All registrations are done on-line. When you complete your on-line registration you will receive an emailed invoice and are then given the option of paying on-line or using the invoice to pay by check.
