Many construction claims and defect cases evolve from ambiguity and/or disconnects between the intent of the design professionals and the contractor team during construction. The presentation will provide insights and suggestions for better recognizing potential problems before they occur through critical review of project documentation and better communications. Specific issues addressed will include evaluating pre-construction geotechnical report scope, contents and applicability to the construction. Contractors and construction managers are often in a position to benefit the project by proactively identifying and addressing concerns prior to the onset of construction. When damages are evident, it will generally be necessary to evaluate causation and predict the potential for future soil movement. Case histories illustrating how civil, structural and geotechnical engineers can work more effectively will also be presented.
This month's meeting is a joint meeting between the Arizona ACI Chapter, the Structural Engineer's Association of Arizona, and the Arizona Chapter of the International Concrete Repair Institute. Members of any of these organizations may register on this site using the discounted member fee.
