Fiber Reinforced Concrete Floors
 with Extended Joint Spacing

This presentation covers topics that affect the performance of concrete floors including slabs on ground, slabs on deck and topping slabs.  Advanced concrete mix design and specialty admixtures will allow for extending the joint spacing while minimizing the racks.  Such concrete floors are reinforced with macrofibers (steel or synthetic) for an improved crack control.  Fibers can provide different levels of tensile/flexural capacity for a concrete section, depending on the type, dosage and performance.  Using low shrinkage fiber-reinforced concrete will reduce the construction time and cost, while resulting in a better performing floor.  Sealers, densifiers and dry-shakes can further be specified and used to improve the topical properties of concrete floors.  ACI 260R and ACI 544.4R guidelines are reviewed in the presentation for high performance concrete floor construction.  This lunch is free thanks to our Sponsors listed below!  Please be sure to thank those who continue to help bring these meetings to the Southern Arizona community at no charge!  

Speaker:  Amir Bonakdar is the business development manager for Euclid Chemical in the West.  He has a Master's degree in structural engineering from the University of Tehran and a PhD degree from Arizona State University.  Amir's academic and professional life has been dedicated to fiber-reinforced concrete and concrete durability.  He joined Euclid Chemical in 2013 and has been an active member of ACI, PCI, ASTM and SEA.  He is a subcommittee chair for ACI 544 and has chaired a new ACI Design guide on FRC.  He is also an active member of ACI201 and voting member of ACI 360.
