Mr. Rushing will discuss items and requirements inside 318 that many engineers, contractors and ready mix suppliers may not be aware of. With the reorganization of 318, many items that were embedded in parts of the code are now more prominent. This presentation will highlight requirements in the code that relate to the production of the drawings and specifications and also speak to the issues required of the contractor and ready mix supplier in the execution phase of the project construction.
William Rushing initially went to work at Morphy, Makofsky and Masson in New Orleans in January of 1981 after receiving a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from LSU. Shortly after, he joined Waldemar S. Nelson & Co., Inc. and now holds the position of Vice President.
As a Project Manager and Structural Engineer at NELSON, Mr. Rushing has been involved in a wide variety of projects including offshore oil liquefied natural gas facilities, levees, flood walls, industrial facilities, refineries,container terminals, drainage pumping stations, and extensive work in the repair and rehabilitation of steel, concrete and timber structures.
Mr. Rushing is currently The President of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and is a fellow of the ACI.
He received his BS in civil engineering from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA, in 1981. He is a licensed professional engineer in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, and Arizona.
In his spare time, Bill is an avid triathlete having just completed his first half-Ironman, 70.3 miles. He is also an avid soccer fan, having been a coach, player or referee most of his life. As a referee, refereed at the professional level both indoor and outdoor matches. And also is a second degree black belt in Taekwondo and Hapkido.
